“Multiply
By Six Million” presents a visually arresting
and powerful first-person history of one of the
defining events of the 20 th century through portraits
and personal stories of Holocaust survivors. The
exhibition showcases photographer Evvy Eisen's
decade-long project to create portraits of survivors
living in California and Europe, and to collect
their personal histories. Critically lauded, the
project works are included in the archives of
the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in
Washington DC, the Simon Wiesenthal Center in
Los Angeles, and the Centre de Documentation Juive
Contemporaine in Paris, France.
By
featuring individual survivor portraits and stories,
“Multiply By Six Million” offers viewers a personal
perspective on the Holocaust. Survivors tell their
stories in hopes that the seeds of today's intolerance
and bigotry are recognized in time to prevent
tomorrow's genocides.

The experiences described are especially meaningful to
students, since the survivors were all young people during
the war.
Each
piece in the exhibition includes a dramatic black-and-white
portrait and an edited version of the subject's own
description of his/her experiences before, during, and
after the Holocaust. This exhibition demonstrates that
it is only through a personal connection that we can
understand the true meaning of events such as the Holocaust,
and prevent them from ever happening again.
